AP has registered more than 5.5% annual economic growth rate during the last two decades. The State is very favorably placed in terms of the HDI (Human Development Indicator), which is the weighted average index of 74 parameters like Health, Education, Sanitation, Environment and Empowerment etc., that define the well being and quality of the life of the people. AP is among the largest producers of food grains, fruits, vegetables, cotton, maize, dairy and poultry products in the country. It has been net exporter of many agro products. AP occupies a pride of place in the country in the IT and IT Enabled Services activities. AP is the leading state in the country in using IT for improving the quality of administration and for taking Governance to the doorsteps of every citizen in the state. Almost every village in the state is covered by optical fiber network of BSNL and Reliance providing the communications network.

The State has a large base of higher education institutions, perhaps the best in the country. AP also has a large number of polytechnics and ITIs offering high quality technical education to second level technical personnel.

AP has the second largest power generating utility in the country with around 10,650 MW installed capacity. Coal and Natural gas are abundant and are the two the cheapest sources of thermal power generation. AP is known for its reliable and quality power supply.

Almost all the important towns in the State are very well connected both by air, rail and road. Two large sea ports already exist at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada. Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram are likely to be completed shortly. A state of the art World-Class International Airport is coming up at Hyderabad. Visakhapatnam Airport is also poised for substantial expansion and modernization.
